Huawei P30 и Huawei P30 Pro

A couple of years ago when buying a new phone, people used to think a salesman was a banana-head for offering something from a Chinese company. Today people are ready to pay up hundreds of euros for a Huawei flagman. But should they?

This March people were hyped to get an announcement of new Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. You know the “this is the next generation, we’ve never seen anything like this before” type of crap. Like yeah, it’s something new if you have lived the last ten years in a cave in the middle of Amazonia. Because P20 and P20 Pro were almost the same stuff.

This year’s models differ from the previous generation with more cameras and more screen space. P30 and P30 Pro have almost the same futuristic look with shiny and bright back panel. This time they offer four colors which doesn’t really matter cos the phone will anyway be covered with fingerprints on that metallic or covered with a case. So pass on that.

With the tendency of widening the screen, Huawei P30 and P30 Pro now don’t have any physical buttons on the front panel. But what they have is a teeny-tiny little notch on top of the screen with a single camera there seen. I swear, it looks like a nasty pimple right in the middle of a forehead. I would honestly prefer a good old top panel from left to right.

The specs in these are actually impressive. But let’s be honest, none of us uses even half the capabilities of our phones. Well ok, the specs. Both P30 and P30 Pro got a 2340×1080 pixels screen where P30 Pro has a bigger and curved one. Both run latest Kirin 980 chipset and are equipped with a shitload of cameras.

You remember when having a camera was already cool enough? Well, fuck that! Here you have five cameras in a single smartphone. Why? Because you can. There is no other logical explanation of why would you need to install four rear cameras plus a front one. It sounds cool, no doubt. But does it have any practical application? No one’s gonna use a smartphone to make professional photoshoots with a phone. And Apple already proved that one decent camera is enough for good instagram pictures.

But Huawei decided to bring us more. P30 has three rear cameras with wide angles which provide with 3X optical zoom and 5X hybrid zoom. P30 Pro has four cameras, again with wide angles and this time 5X optical zoom and 10X hybrid zoom. So if you have one of these, you will finally clearly see what happens in a building on the other side of the road. And both smartphones have a 32-megapixel front camera.

Obviously, such high-quality ultra-detailed super-duper photos need a lot of place for storage. P30 comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage which you can expand with a nano memory card. P30 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM and has three options of 128GB / 256GB / 512GB storage capacity. Again, plus a nano card. If anyone still uses those.

You think already of buying those? Well, first take a look at the prices.
P30 will cost you €800. P30 Pro 128GB / 256GB / 512GB costs €1000/€1100/€1250 corresponding. Sounds like too much for a phone. Even with four cameras. Even top-notch. And if you already have the last year model, I see no reason to a new one. Unless you feel Huawei is the next Apple where you have to have a new model every year in the sake of having it. But Huawei is not Apple not matter how hard they try to jump over the head. And paying the same money for a Chinese smartphone as for an iPhone… I dunno, seems unreasonable.

Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are cool. They are cool to look from the distance and drool all over the cameras and megapixels. But an average user will not see the difference with any other flagman smartphone on the market.
