Now you can send nudes on WhatsApp

We can witness different apps just keep using ideas Snapchat had about 10 years ago. So this time, WhatsApp decided to try out the disappearing photos. As you may remember, this was first brought for sexting, but somehow young kids started to enjoy the whole secret, non-traceable communication more. As it often happens, what was once a favorite thing for young ones, becomes a trend with all age groups (hey, Facebook!).

Basically, WhatsApp took the disappearing messages and called it “view once”. You’ll be able to set a timer on how long the recipient will see your very private message for the first and last time. At the same time, you won’t be notified if someone screenshots your epistle, unlike Instagram and Snapchat. It always makes me wonder how come Facebook has different policies for different products.

Officially WhatsApp is positioning the whole feature as an opportunity to safely share some sensitive information like the wi-fi password or “a very private moment”. Yet, if someone reports the “view once message”, the company leaves the right to unfold it. I don’t know what you were up to, but keep this in mind. Also, be careful when sending such a view once, as every time, you should set the settings right. By accident, it can be sent as a regular view all the time.

Another thing is that these kinds of messages will be kept only for 14 days. If the recipient went to some social media rehab center for more than two weeks, he/she’ll never get your private letter. Moreover, you’ll be able to see if someone opened your view once, only if they have read receipts turned on.

Did WhatsApp bring something new to the table? No. Sadly they still didn’t update their desktop version, and if you don’t have your mobile around, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp on your computer. It sucks, right… But still, you’ll be able to send the view once. I hope to see some real features anytime soon before all the active users run away to Signal or even Telegram.
