Tesla loaner delivered to Beneil Dariush, an Indian UFC champion, after he contacted Elon Musk himself

Way back in 2020, the UFC fighter Beneil Dariush ordered a new Tesla car and spent months waiting for a reply. However, only after he decided to contact Elon and address the questions directly to him on live stream, Dariush finally got the attention worth telling of.

Just after his glorious victory over the US fighter, Tony Ferguson, in Houston in May 2021 he made a startling shout-out straight to the Tesla’s head, Elon Musk. He stated that he bought a new vehicle from the company about half a year ago and hasn’t received it yet. On the same day, Musk replied to him on Twitter bringing the apologies. And in two more days, Dariush’s manager uploaded a picture of happy Dariush near a brand-new Tesla.

“Before the fight, about a week before, someone asked me when my Tesla would arrive. I replied something like “I don’t have a clue,” says Dariush in his interview with ESPN. “I made fun of it and said that I would just give a call directly to Elon after the fight. It was a joke.”

“However, in some time I thought ‘Why not?’ you know? I decided to really shout out to him and have been living with the idea ever since.”

The next day after the fight, Dariush’s phone was bursting out with calls and messages from different Tesla dealers trying to reach him out. Dariush, who recently made an outstanding performance of a 7-fight winning spree, said that he didn’t want to reach out back to them at first.

“I was like ‘those are probably scammers’,” he said. “I didn’t think it through. Just ignored them and was back with my stuff, you know? Then my manager tells me about that reply Elon posted. It gave me the idea that those guys on the phone… they actually might be true. So, I called them back and was told to come by and take the car. I was shocked. ‘I’ve been trying to reach you guys for months, and ya’ll just like ‘come and take it’!”

Tesla told him that the car he ordered was already manufactured but did have a date of delivery specified. That is why for a while they provided him with another model – a loaner vehicle.

The UFS fighters have a common state expression “Don’t waste an after-fight callout.” Looks like Dariush didn’t squander his.
