According to The Wall Street Journal, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki warned the US government about a possible increase in prices for the PlayStation in the Americas.
The reason for this threat is the upcoming 25% tax on goods from China that is now being prepared by the administration of Donald Trump.
However, Sony has not yet fully decided how to respond to tariff increases. The Japanese company is exploring options: current taxes “haven’t affected us much, but we must keep in mind the potential risk.”
Another company, Nintendo, has already begun to transfer Switch production from China to Southeast Asia due to the economic sanctions of the States.
The next session of negotiations to settle the trade conflict between the US and China will be held in early August. A previous increase in tariffs on imports of Chinese goods was in May 2019.
