The hugely popular right now streaming powerhouse Twitch decided to take measures against the unbounded popularity of the PogChamp emoji by removing it completely. All due to the popular streamer that inspired the emoji in the first place posting twits encouraging violence in the US Capitol commotion.
“We’ve made the decision to remove the PogChamp emote following statements from the face of the emote encouraging further violence after what took place in the Capitol today,” says Twitch.
All in all, Twitch came out with a prompt reaction to the professional Street Fighter player Ryan Gutierrez’s posts elaborating on the Capitol lethal shooting incident and its effect on the further rioting.
PogChamp is an extremely popular Twitch emoji and meme right now. It is the most common way to express one’s excitement or shock on many social platforms. The pog emote was actively used since 2012. Then, Ryan Gutierrez’s face was removed from the emote.
However, a fun and unexpected decision was made by Twitch to return PogChamp and change it in a custom manner every 24 hours to avoid any public discontent. Day9tv’s Sean Plott suggested using faces of random Twitch community members which seems a good Twitch emote resolution.
And Twitch went with it, saying: “You know what? In the spirit of figuring out 2021 together, let’s just roll with it for now! Get ready for a new PogChamp every 24 hours, starting today.”
Twitch didn’t indicate for how long they are planning to keep this up, but, perhaps, a new signature PogChamp face will soon appear online. Possible candidates are plenty.
