Well, first things first. Some geeks from Whitaker Studio had a bunch of spare shipping containers that they found expensive to recycle, so why not give it a shot and reuse. That’s probably how they came up with such an idea – to build a 2112-square feet house a brick throw away from Joshua Tree National Park. So far the property looks like a desert, so you will have a perfect feeling of being roasted alive in a metal container with a concrete floor.
At the moment this creation of a wild architect looks like what it actually is – a bunch of metal containers plugged into the soil under different angles. They call it Starburst house, but it’s really more of a metal throw-up in the sands. The house is supposed to have 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and kinda living room, hopefully in the containers which are lying on the ground. They say it will be powered using solar panels. As for other blessings of civilization (like running water or sewage system, you name it), it is not clear how to provide those in the middle of nowhere.
The half-built house is promised to be ready by the middle of 2021 and the tentative price is about 3.5 fuckin million bucks, which obviously is a total bargain for a bunch of scrap metal painted white. And even the Instagram page of this glorification of absurd has millions of followers, so get in line!
