Social Experiment in Amsterdam: Huge Dance Party with 1,300 Participants

Somebody might start panicking after witnessing this event. A huge dance party during the pandemic? WTF??? Keep calm and party, everything is all right, it is a kind of social experiment conducted in Amsterdam early in March.

Other experiments included business, sport, and theatrical events. They were all launched by Fieldlab which is an initiative established by the government and the entertainment industry. This set of experiments aimed to check whether big crowds can get together safely.

1,300 people, attending the dance night, needed to have a negative COVID-19 test and are to be tested again in five days. The participants were divided into five groups, each having different rules. For instance, one of the groups was requested to have masks on, another one was asked to be as noisy as possible. Special sensors were monitoring all the contacts people were having with each other all the way through.

The DJ Lady Bee commented she was excited, as it all seemed almost like a normal pandemic-free dance night.

The Netherlands is significantly famous for its electronic music, DJs, and big festivals. The Amsterdam Dance Event taking place in October has not been canceled yet for this year. Event Maker industry group claims that the festival industry in the Netherlands is worth $8 billion. Just one yearly event involves about 80 clubs and more than 2,000 DJs.

It is expected that the dance party will test if it is possible to organize largescale festivals again and make them available for big crowds. It will also check how much people stick to the rules.
