London is not the only place to see in England.

Hey guys. Hope you all enjoy my blog. Today I have some useful advice if you plan to visit England.

When saying England, most of us will think of London, right? It does make sense (well, tourist-ish). It is a huge city, the capital. A lot of tourists might consider going there in the first place. But London is not the whole of England. It is more a multinational and multicultural megapolis, some kind of a country within a country.  

You should, of course, check it out, but you can not take London as England in general. If you want to see real England – you will have to check other cities and feel the real British spirit. 

So today we will talk about York.

Why? Despite its almost two-thousand-year history, the city looks great (while WW2 it was not so severely bombed as others) and lovers of antiquity and authentic architecture will definitely enjoy it.

The fortress walls, cathedrals, churches, medieval streets, museums, parks and the embankment along the banks of the River Ouse – a whole lot of things to see. 

York’s main symbol – the Cathedral, the construction of which lasted more than 400 years. It is considered to be one of the largest medieval temples in northern Europe after Cologne Cathedral, and inside you can find the largest medieval stained-glass windows in Europe.

The fortress wall is another thing you just have to see (protective structure a little less than 5 km long), which was built in the XIV century. The city tour begins right at it.

Some more places of interest are the Clifford Tower, Jorvik Viking Museum, Guild House, Treasurer House, York Castle Museum, Art Gallery, National Railway Museum, Roman Legion Baths.
