Members of the House of Commons of the British Parliament has adopted the law which obliges the British Government to appeal to the EU for a deferment on Brexit.
313 deputies voted for the document vs 312 against (it was a close one). The authors of the bill are Yvette Cooper (Labour Party) and Oliver Letwin (Conservative Party) as they aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit in ten days’ time.
The Bill is split into three key sections:
The Prime Minister would be required to bring a motion to the Commons seeking an extension of Article 50 of any length she chooses.
MPs will be free to change the date – binding the Government to a delay of its choosing.
If the EU responds with a different delay period, the Prime Minister must immediately bring a fresh motion to the Commons with a new period of her choosing.
In order for the Law to enter into force it must be approved by the House of Lords and by the Queen Elizabeth II.
As usual, we are having our popcorn and watching that never-ending saga.
