Apple’s new iPads

If you rely on regular Apple events to keep track of what is going on and what’s new coming, you may have missed their recent update. Not like there was something worth careful attention, but here it is: Apple upgraded two of their tablets introducing renewed the iPad Mini and the iPad Air.

The iPad Mini has already become a fossil since it was released in 2014. It has existed for five years which made it a real legend and a real shit. Today a five-year-old gadget that still costs $400 is nonsense. Now we have a new one for the same price. Which is actually not that new.

If you take a 2014 version and put it next to a 2019 one, you will notice that barely anything has changed. It’s same, but different, but still same *insert gif. Apple had one job to do and they hardly put any effort into doing it. They took what used to work (an old design) and added what might work (new guts). As a result, we got presented something no one should buy.

The 2019 iPad Mini was upgraded with Apple’s A12 Bionic processor that is meant to make the tablet faster. The storage capacity is increased to 64GB or 256GB. Additionally, the gadget now supports the Apple Pencil and TrueTone technology. And the front camera was changed from a 1.2-megapixel to a 7-megapixel camera. This is it. These are all the changes that Apple made to their smallest tablet. Fascinating, right?

If you think that was strange, here is one more. Instead of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro Apple presented a new iPad Air. And once again, they took the old shell and tried to fit in a couple of new components and present it like it is worth something.

The same as the iPad Mini, it got Apple’s A12 Bionic processor and a 7-megapixel front camera. It also now supports the Apple Pencil, TrueTone and is compatible with Apple’s Smart Keyboard. And the price has changed also. To get this renewed and upgraded brand new (no) tablet you have to pay five hundred bucks. I see no reason why it would cost so much. It’s basically the same iPad Pro with a slightly bigger screen and better processor. If you want to satisfy your needs and ready to pay $500, go get a hooker, still a better investment.

This time Apple really screwed up. Instead of top-notch up-to-date gadgets they offer us old crappy tablets with a little of a facelift. Apple have always positioned themselves as the company that brings innovation and pushes the industry forward. Seems this time they slipped on a banana skin.
