Elon Musk just revealed the Tesla Model Y — and he’s still the greatest car salesman who ever lived

Elon Musk unveiled the newest Tesla SUV

     In March was the official presentation of Tesla’s Y Model that took place in the company’s badass LA Design studio. There Elon visualized Tesla’s evolution, by putting out on stage all five models produced so far.

     Despite the finance shit-soup, the company is boiling in, Tesla pulls out a new vehicle. A compact/midsize crossover that’s really the vehicle the all-electric automaker needs most, as consumers in the US switch in droves to SUVs. So basically Model Y is an upgraded version of Model X from 2015. Model X was Tesla’s first attempt to conquer the SUV market space.

The new model has 7 passenger seats, in case you want to give a ride to your carless-ass friends. Plus the now classical for Tesla panoramic window and of course a safer autopilot system. As Elon Musk said, “It will be safe enough not to pay attention”. Interesting fact: the autopilot is not fucking included in the cars price, comes with an extra 3,000$. But hey, where can you get a lifetime driver for 3K? In Venezuela?

The Y Model has a higher range than any electric SUV car before- 300 miles. Plus Tesla is launching with the great speed their Supercharging stations all over the world, so the chances you get stuck in the middle of nowhere are dropped to a minimum.

The performance trim will be the fastest of the three, with a top speed of 150 mph and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. “It will have the functionality of an SUV, but it will ride like a sports car,” says Musk.

Production for the three available Model Y trims is expected to begin at the end of 2020. Musk said during the event that a standard-range trim would arrive in 2021 and start at $39,000. Faster longer range models start at 60,000$. The most engaged Tesla lovers can even preorder the Y Model online, by paying 2.500$.  

Still let’s not forget about Tesla’s announcement in February, about closing most of its stores and moving to an online sales model. As Musk then said, “Its 21 century, people want to buy stuff online”. The company said the move would enable to slash the prices for all of its cars and roll out its long-promised $35,000 Model 3 sooner than expected. About a week later, though, Tesla backtracked and said it would actually keep more stores open and increase the price of its vehicles closer to their previous amount. These moves signal that the company continues to struggle for its life. And by all business parameters, it’s a really hard fight. Especially with all the new electric vehicles that are headed onto the field of competition. For example the Nissan model Leaf or the Hyundai model Kona. Not to mention the Jaguar I-PACE, a very solid crossover, and the Porsche Taycan, a high-performance four-door.

And last but not least the reveal of Model Y could put further pressure on the Model 3 sales because people might choose to wait to purchase the SUV instead of opting for the lower-cost sedan.

But as we see Tesla has made it through a lot of shit, so maybe Model Y will be the one that brings true profit.  Elon Musk truly believes in it, so who knows, what those gick geniuses have as a backup plan. Be sure there is yet to see from Tesla.
