All about EURO 2020 and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Golden Boot triumph

Christiano Ronaldo (36) brought a smile to his fans yet again. Apart from scoring five goals throughout EURO 2020 (and an assist from 391 minutes of action), he also took home the Golden Boot award for the top goal-scorer for the 2021 European Championships (dubbed EURO 2020) on 11, July.

The Portuguese phenomenon Cristiano Ronaldo succeeded in bagging his very first European Championship Golden Boot after EURO 2020 came to an end on July, 11 with Italy rising as a definite champion. 

It’s worth pointing out the skipper/forward scored in all of the group stage games for his country. He also bagged a brace in the matches with Hungary and France but couldn’t manage in the round of the ⅛ finals match, which ended 1-0 in favour of Belgium despite Cristiano’s skills.

The captain of the England team Harry Kane scored four goals and had the opportunity to outdo Ronaldo (and Schick) before the final with Italy. Ronaldo, nevertheless, pulled through and earned his award. 

The footballer from Portugal additionally emerged as the leading goal-scorer in all the Euros with this championship and his 14th goal. Ronaldo and Schick had the same amount of goals but UEFA’s guidelines specify that if two or more players have the same amount of goals, then the one with the higher number of assists would be receiving the award. Moreover, if two or more players have the same amount of goals and number of assists, the one who’s had fewer minutes to achieve that will receive the award. Hence why, following those rules, it’s clear that Ronaldo deserved the Golden Boot since he managed a single assist and Schick didn’t participate in any other goals. Additionally, Ronaldo did play 391 minutes and Schick had 416, which meant that even if Ronaldo didn’t have an assist, he’d still get the award.
