The second round became a somewhat disappointing end for Holger Rune in the June edition of the US Open.
The Danish tennis bowl must now pack his bags and return back home from New York after a two-set defeat to Dominic Stricker. The second-rate Swiss beat the second-seeded Dane with the 6-4, 7-5 score.
16-year-old Holger Rune, who has already started life as a senior, has previously announced that the US Open would be his last but one junior tournament. The Dane’s final will be the season finale before becoming a full-time senior.
Tuesday’s game started off smoothly. The first service break of the match came in the seventh game, with Swiss Stricker leading 4-3 in Dane’s outlay. Stricker held his serve, the subsequent two times he laid out, and the set came home in the first try.
In the second set, it waved more back and forth. Rune broke to 3-1 and then lost in his own serve. He did that again a little later, and then there was 5-4 to Stricker, who could serve himself the victory house.
But Holger Rune raised another hat-break from the hat and equalized to 5-5. However, the Swiss was not done and broke back immediately. In the ensuing game, he took the win on the first match ball.
Earlier this year, Holger Rune won the French Open for juniors and is currently number two on the world ranking for juniors.
