Indian Premier League has been suspended

The 14^th Indian Premier League was suspended after an increasing number of COVID-positive players and other staff.

First, Wridhimman Saha, a Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batsman tested positive before the game between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The same day Amit Mishra, a Delhi Capitals spinner was also COVID-19 positive. Two Kolkata Knight Riders players had the same fate.

After these incidents, the Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had an immediate meeting where it was agreed to halt the IPL 2021.

In its official statement, the IPL says that the BCCI is not inclined to risk the health of participants and personnel. They also express their gratitude to all the players and people who organized the IPL in this hard period of time.

The IPL 2021 season cancellation produced mixed feelings of its fans and supporters. While some of them appreciated what the IPL did for safety and health, others felt frustrated and complained.

India is struggling now through its hard times, having had its highest daily death rate recently. There have been over 20 million cases and 222,000 death owing to the virus so far.

The IPL was located in six different places and the participants were reaching them by plane. During the games, participants stayed at hotels and were not contacting other people outside the tournament.

The franchises must guarantee the safe returning of Welsh and English teams back home. Before the departure and after arriving home the teams are to be tested for coronavirus and have self-isolation at a hotel for 10 days.

Cricket Australia is making sure Australian players are guaranteed to get home safely. It is important to note that all the flights from India to Australia have been canceled until 15 May.

Cricket South Africa is taking measures as well to ensure the safe returning of their players.
