Facebook is developing augmented reality products
In 2014 Facebook bought the virtual reality pathfinder Oculus VR, which cost $2 billion. Since then it has been thriving in this sphere. It let out a few versions of the product, including the Oculus Rift S, augmented reality gaming headset, worth $399, introduced in 2019. Augmented reality (or AR) refers to a technology that adds digital images to real-world objects.
The first products by Facebook were criticized a great deal due to feeling unnatural. Nevertheless, Zuckerberg, the CEO of the company, claims that despite this, it is going to be the most social technology ever. He also believes that Augmented reality products might help people live where they like to and work remotely, having jobs anywhere on the planet. It could be within reach by the 2030s, Zuckerberg assumes.
Currently, Facebook is elaborating on smart glasses, called “Orion”, planning to come out with the product in 2023 – 2025 in collaboration with Luxottica.
Zuckerberg made some predictions about future technologies and innovations. He said that augmented reality would be among the leading ones for the following ten years, while cellular phones were at the top during the previous decade.
