List of the 21 movies that will keep you going through 2021

Considering how fast and often everything was changing in the year 2020 because of COVID-19, we can only hope that the following movies get made. If that does happen, 2021 will be an exciting year for movies.

If you feel even a little optimistic about 2021, you’re not alone. Just like everything else in life, regardless of how shitty last year was, the new one always comes bringing hope. This is especially true this year because many find the new vaccine to compensate for the endured pain. It’s refreshing to see so many individuals wish nothing but health upon everyone and it’s always promising when a fresh start (like the beginning of a new year) is presented to us. Even though movies are not as important as health, they’re something to look forward to and that’s always a good thing. While going to actual theaters sounds almost impossible now, that doesn’t mean that we won’t ever be able to go back to cinemas and watch films on the big screen.

Because of everything that happened last year and how the world immediately altered, the notion of movies being released now sounds very unconventional to some. What happened during the pandemic last year was that most films delayed filming, as well as release dates. Some studios even dropped movies for streaming at the same instance as they’ll hit cinemas. The opinions on whether this is appropriate are controversial, however, for blockbusters’ fans, 2021 must look pretty good.

What is to be expected are productions involving Wes Anderson, Steven Spielberg, Marvel, and James Bond. Let’s hope we’re lucky and we’re able to get into the theaters this year.

1. Nomadland

In cinemas: February 19, 2021

Chinese filmmaker Chloe Zhao has got it all set up for the year 2021. Chloe is the director of “The Eternals” (an upcoming movie from the Marvel Universe). Furthermore, she’s a definite front-runner for Best Director in the approaching Oscars due to her amazing job as director of “Nomadland”. If you’re a fan of Frances McDormand, you might be interested in “Nomadland”, where the actress represents a woman embarking on a journey with her van in a new exciting and extraordinary movie.

2.Morbius

In cinemas: March 19, 2021

Jared Leto is an audience favorite. We saw him in ‘The Suicide Squad’ last year and now he’s teaming up with Marvel for “Morbius”. The actor/singer will be playing Michael Morbius. The character is a biochemist who allows a crucial mistake in the middle of an experiment and unintentionally injects himself with blood, which kind of makes him a vampire. Marvel is known for following the story of the comics in their motion pictures, so it’s not that unlikely to see Jared and Tom Holland (aka Spider-Man) confront each other soon.

3. No Time To Die

In cinemas: April 2, 2021

A classic. Many have been anxiously waiting for this film. Even though nothing is certain with a pandemic going on. If we’re lucky enough we might get the 25th James Bond movie in April (fingers crossed!). The previous Bond movie starred Daniel Craig and it faced many delays and issues (as well as actual injuries because of course Daniel does his stunts). Let’s hope nothing happens to the upcoming “No Time To Die”. The soon-to-be-released film includes Lashana Lynch as 007, appearances from Madeleine Swann, as well as an already released theme song by beloved Billie Eilish. That’s why we expect everything to be great about this movie.

4.A Quiet Place Part II

In cinemas: April 23, 2021

Emily Blunt is an actress loved by many. This time, she’ll reappear as her character ‒ a strong woman with a quiet family, hiding from creatures that hunt through listening to every sound. The upcoming motion picture (“A Quiet Place Part II”) is a sequel to the first (and very popular) movie from 2018. The second part will present the family going out of their ‘‘safe zone’’ while revealing other dangers apart from the creatures.

5.Last night in Soho

In cinemas: April 23, 2021

Edgar Wright is the writer and director of “Last Night in Soho”. In the movie, Anya Taylor-Joy plays a female who succeeds in going back in time (to the year 1960). This movie turns into a horror eventually and you’ll also get to see the deceased Diana Rigg acting.

6. The French Dispatch

In cinemas: May 2021

“The French Dispatch” is one of the top competitors for an Oscar, according to respected critics. The film is an illustration of “a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in 20th-century Paris and centers on three storylines.” Moreover, like many Anderson productions, the cast is formed by an amazing selection: Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Steve Park, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and other director’s favorites. This motion picture has already gathered a lot of hype and the bar is raised high, so let’s pray it lives up to it.

7.Black Widow

In cinemas: May 7, 2021

Even though the Avengers lost Black Widow in “Avengers: Endgame”, the female character comes back in her first stand-alone film. “Black Widow” shows us what happened to Natasha Romanoff (played by Scarlett Johansson) when she returns home after the story in “Captain America: Civil War”. Natasha finds out that she has to work on the relationship with the family she left behind. In the movie, you can also see Florence Pugh and David Harbour debuting in the Marvel world.

8. Fast & Furious 9

In cinemas: May 28, 2021

This classic has changed a lot throughout the years. “The Fast and the Furious” franchise has been with us all for a long time and has transformed from movies about street racers to a clique of some kind of superheroes, who save the world. There have already been nine movies in the franchise and the latest one (Fast & Furious 9) will trace the story of Dominic and his family, who take on Jakob (Dominic’s brother ‒ an assassin, who teamed up with an old family’s enemy). Fans can also notice Han in the trailer, so there’s also his return to look forward to.

9.The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

In cinemas: June 4, 2021

This one is for horror movie lovers. We can once again watch Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga slip into their characters Ed and Lorraine Warren in the third installment of the “Conjuring” franchise: “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”. What excites many is probably the fact that the whole story is based on two actual paranormal investigators. In this third film, a murder suspect insists that demonic possessions are responsible for his wrongdoings.

10.Top Gun: Maverick

In cinemas: July 2, 2021

It’s okay to feel old. After all, it’s been 34 years since we last saw Tom Cruise in a cockpit in “Top Gun”, but don’t be quick to think Tom’s doing any worse than what we remember. Maverick is still so certain of his abilities and he pushes his physical and authoritarian limits. There are two new aspects in “Top Gun: Maverick”, however. There’s a new risky mission and his dead best friend (Goose)’s son appears.

11. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

In cinemas: July 9, 2021

This motion is intended to be the 25th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is different because it’s the first film appearance of martial artist superhero Shang-Chi (who debuted in 1973). It’s been 50 years and Marvel now responds by focusing more on the story of its superheroes of color. Simu Liu (a Chinese-Canadian actor) will star in this one.

12. Space Jam: A New Legacy

In cinemas: July 16, 2021

The one a lot of you have been waiting for. This classic is a ‘90s masterpiece and is now getting a second part only 25 years after the first one was played in cinemas. In “Space Jam: A New Legacy” LeBron James will play himself and other appearances are also notable: NBA and WNBA superstars Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, and Diana Taurasi. The new movie is produced by Ryan Coogler and James, himself, and the story follows James in the search for Bronny (his son), as James and the Looney Toons gang make their way through the Warner Bros. catalog.

“The Suicide Squad” will be something between a reboot and a second part of the original film from 2016 with almost the same name. Antiheroes will be featured again and their leader will be Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis). Like the previous movie, the ‘heroes’ will try to reduce their sentences or redeem themselves. 14.Candyman

In cinemas: August 27, 2021

There’s good news for the fans of Jordan Peele. The actor is starring in another horror after the success of “Get Out” and “Us”. The director of “Candyman” is Nia DaCosta and the sequel to the original from 1992 is taking place in the same area in Chicago as it did the first time around. In the movie, the character of Anthony McCoy (the visual artist) moves into a new neighborhood and discovers Candyman.

17.Spider-Man Sequel with a name to be announced

In cinemas: November 5, 2021

In the second movie with Tom Holland starring as Spider-Man we were left with a cliff-hanger. This made a lot of people excited, but also nervous. The reason for that was the unknown faith of the third movie in light of the conflict between Sony and Marvel. The fans were delighted to hear, however, that a compromise was reached and Peter Parker is coming back for at least two more films.

18.Ghostbusters: Afterlife

In cinemas: November 11, 2021

The director of the new “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is Jason Reitman and the film was initially supposed to be released in July, however, there were delays due to COVID-19. There’s not a lot of information on what the story is but Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace will play brother and sister, with Carrie Coon as their single mother, and Paul Rudd in an undisclosed role. It’s still unknown whether the remaining original Ghostbusters will be in the movie.

19. Mission: Impossible 7

In cinemas: November 19, 2021

Next year is supposed to be an amazing one for Tom Cruise. He’s meant to once again portray a very iconic role in movie №7 from the franchise. Ethan Hunt is likely going to outdo his craziest stunts in “Mission: Impossible 7” (minding the fact that Tom mostly does his stunts). Moreover, this will not be the last of the series. “Mission: Impossible 8” is scheduled for November 2022.

21. West Side Story

In cinemas: December 10, 2021

This all-time-favorite musical is being remade into a movie for the first time since 1961. The director is Steven Spielberg and the film tracks the story of the 1950’s New York City version of Romeo and Juliet. In the new “West Side Story” Tony will be portrayed by Ansel Elgort and singer Rachel Zegler will play Maria.

22. The Matrix 4

In cinemas: December 22, 2021

Many people anticipate the new John Wick movie with Keanu Reeves but that’s not until 2022. Nevertheless, we can hopefully see the actor this December in “The Matrix 4”. The bad news is that the plot of the fourth film is currently unknown to the public, however, that’s probably normal considering it’s been 20 years since the OG, and the hype now is real. That might, on the other hand, be the better option for people who wish to avoid spoilers and be amazed at the premiere.

Let’s hope that all the movies on the list will keep their dates, but don’t forget there can be plenty of reschedules and delays due to the pandemic.
