Can The Witcher by Netflix become more successful than HBO`s The Game of Thrones?
The creator of Geralt from Rivia adventures, Andrzej Sapkowski shared his opinion on the “Witcher” TV series
He believes that “Witcher” by Netflix can be as successful or even more popular than “Game of Thrones” by HBO.
“I acknowledge the work George R. R. Martin did with his great creation. I love this TV series, but I think that there are too many protagonists in his books. Once I asked him: “ Why do you kill all these characters?” He answered: “ Because I like it “. I don’t think that readers feel the same”, – told Sapkowski about “The Game of Thrones”
The writer explains how he invented “Geralt”. “When I applied for participation in the literature contest of a “ Fantastic” magazine, I turned to folklore. Polish literature and mythology provide a strong influence on all of my books. Unfortunately, some elements are lost at translation. There was one tale about the cobbler killing dragon. And I understood that this is impossible. Cobblers can`t kill dragons.
So I asked myself: “Who will be the one killing monsters?” That is why I created Geralt, the professional monster hunter. I took only 3rd place, the judges were biased”, – as Sapkowski recalls.
