Top News ‒ Winners of the World Car Awards 2021
Did you miss the news about the best of the best? Meet the fresh top of 2021, which includes a supercar, a luxury limo, and even an electro van!
The rating with its 17-year history was formed by motoring journalists from 28 countries. The overall score includes rates in performance, occupant environment, safety, value, environment, market significance, innovation, and emotional appeal. Winners of the World Car Awards 2021 had to meet certain requirements:
- The volume of production must be at least 10000 vehicles per year.
- The price must be lower than the luxury level.
- They have to be sold in at least two large world markets on two continents.
- All these metrics must meet the minimum requirements for the year from May 2020 to May 2021.
World Car of 2021
The first exponent of the winners of the World Car Awards 2021 is a full-electric minivan ‒ Volkswagen ID.4. The vehicle got 93 votes, which has helped it overcome rivals ‒ Honda e and Toyota Yaris. The CEO of Volkswagen Ralf Brandstätter confessed that this is one of the most important awards for the manufacturer and one more confirmation of the fact that the world needs more electric cars.
The ID.4 was produced for their key markets ‒ Europe, the USA, and China, where it has already become highly demanded.
Luxury Car of 2021
We had no doubts that the S-Class from Mercedes-Benz will be at least in the top three cars in the nomination of the best luxury car. It is the second win of the S-Class and the fourth first prize for Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle has left behind serious competitors ‒ Land Rover Defender and Polestar 2.
Prof. Dr. Uwe Ernstberger, the Head of the S-Class and C-Class model series product group, was delighted that the jurors had highly appreciated Mercedes’ tradition of luxury innovation. With every new S-Class representative, the German manufacturer improves all the possible areas from safety to efficiency.
City Car of 2021
The Honda e, which was competing for the first prize in the main World Car nomination, got its crown as the best city car. Its competitors for the award were Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris.
The CEO of the company Koji Watanabe noted that the award is important and prestigious for Honda, as they have put lots of effort into creating more value with new products. So, being recognized by experts and drivers is a great motivation for the manufacturer to enhance the technology to bring more joy to their customers.
Performance Car of 2021
Would you guess which one is the winner ‒ the 911 Turbo, Audi RS Q8, or Toyota GR Yaris? Yeah, this is extremely difficult, however, you won’t be surprised, as this is the eighth win for the car manufacturer. So… the Porsche 911 Turbo took the first prize!
The vice-president of the 911 and 718 model line Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser expressed his gratitude for this next win. He added that their tradition of building high-performance luxury Porsches will continue with the new generation 922.
Design of 2021
The last winner of the World Car Awards 2021 is the 4×4 Land Rover Defender, which design is recognizable because it repeats the traditional lines of the brand, but at the same time is distinguished by futurism.
The chief creative officer of Jaguar Land Rover Gerry McGovern mentioned that the new Defender was influenced by its ancestors, however, there was room for innovation. With this model, the manufacturer tried to push the boundaries of engineering and design while keeping its traditional off-road capability.
