Venom 2: How Many Symbiotes Will We See in Let There Be Carnage?

Venom 2 will be released this fall and will continue the story of the original film. As you probably remember, the first movie ended with Venom’s victory over Riot and reconciliation between Eddie and Venom. But in the sequel, Woody Harrelson’s Carnage will appear on the stage, along with a suspicious detective and a new story, which we saw in the trailer.

According to the plot, Venom will have to fight Carnage, who possessed Cletus Kasady – he managed to escape the death penalty and escaped from prison. The villain is going to establish a world order, based on chaos and destruction.

Carnage made his debut in 1992 in Marvel’s comic book The Amazing Spider-Man # 361 and fans liked him. Like Venom, Carnage is an alien symbiote, it can only act on Earth in the human body, like a parasite. There have been several Carnage hosts in the comics. The most famous is serial killer Cletus Kasady.

Although Carnage is a popular character, he has not yet had a high point in cinema. Andy Serkis admitted that he was delighted to have the opportunity to work on the character design and bring him to the screens. The director promised that Carnage will show the audience what he is capable of with his tentacles.

According to the plot of the comic book Web of Venom: Carnage Born Cletus was born in the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane – there was placed his mother, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. Cletus died shortly after birth but was resurrected by the god Knull, who saw the child’s villainous potential. From childhood, Cletus had mental disorders that resulted in sociopathy, sadism, and a desire for destruction. Cletus killed his grandmother and was involved in the murder of his mother.

After getting rid of his family, Cletus ended up at the St. Estes Home for Boys. There, he was bullied for some time, until Cletus burned down the orphanage and caused bloodshed. Footage from the set hinted that this eerie backstory will be revealed in the film.

Serkis said that Cletus and Eddie are similar in many ways – they are both loners with a difficult childhood. According to the director, Cletus prefers to communicate only with Eddie, so the police ask the journalist to find out from the maniac where the corpses of the people Kasady killed are hidden.

According to the comics, Carnage is stronger than Venom. This is likely to be the case in the movie as well, so Eddie is in big trouble. From the trailer, you can already understand what horrors the cooperation of the two cruel madmen Cletus and Carnage will lead to.

Venom 2

Serkis has already told what the abilities Carnage will have – he can turn into a fog, uses tentacles in battle, and takes different forms. According to the director, Cletus’s mental imbalance and Carnage’s ferocity will allow the duo to use the most frightening and dangerous techniques.

In a word, poor Venom will have a very hard time. And so it happened in the comics – in the Maximum Carnage all and sundry came to fight Carnage. Spider-Man was there too. We would like to assume that support will come to Eddie Brock. But the trailer unobtrusively stopped such speculations, because Carnage said straight that there would be no help – and at the same moment, he killed the spider on the table. The hint is more than obvious. And Serkis confirmed that we should not rely on Spider-Man.

But who, then, can lend a helping hand to Brock? The answer to this question lies in Stephen Graham’s character – the police officer. The guy flashed in the trailer and the director explained the rest. He said that the cop will initially hunt Venom and Eddie Brock. This fact is confirmed by a trailer scene where the guys walk down the hallway and Venom separates from Eddie with the clear intention of killing the cop.

But more importantly, Serkis confirmed the name of the police officer – Patrick Mulligan. In the comics, the man with this name is also known as the Toxin symbiote – one of the most powerful ones. Patrick got it just during a meeting with Carnage, who, by analogy with Venom, put a symbiote for growing inside a poor cop. This symbiote turned out to be incredibly strong. And, what is the funniest thing – kind.

Venom 2

Toxin quickly overcame the desire to eat people and was noted for a bunch of good deeds, in which his abilities helped him a lot. After all, Toxin, unlike Carnage and Venom, is practically immune to fire and sounds, and he can also stick to any surface and does not depend in any way on his host. If both black and red almost always have to be in the host body, then the Toxin is strong and independent. However, this symbiote loves Patrick Mulligan, since he is also a good person and together the guys confronted many people. There is a chance that Toxin is not an advertisement for Venom 3, but a symbiote that will appear in this part.

If not for the COVID-19, we would have seen Carnage clash with Venom (and maybe Toxin) already in the fall of 2020. But now we are waiting for the premiere of Venom 2 on September 24th.
