Dana White also confirmed that this was a great decision, as many fighters regretted choosing a title over a historic fight when faced with a choice like Poirier. The interest of the UFC president in this fight is quite obvious ‒ with the end of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s professional career and his departure from the lightweight division, a new show is needed, new meetings for which people from all over the world will gather in the arena, waiting for the fight. And the athletes in the octagon will be important to them, not their titles. And McGregor gives it to viewers and organizers every time.
So the fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will take place as part of UFC 264. On July 10, the battle between these two great athletes will shake up the whole Las Vegas! Conor confirmed this meeting on his Instagram, writing that “Mac” will still show what he is capable of, promising to destroy the opponent. Although many are already accustomed to the Irishman’s shocking behavior, it is enough to recall the PR campaign he led before the fight with Floyd Mayweather and other fighters. But in most cases, Conor’s threats were justified when he knocked out his rivals, as was the case in 2014 when the Irishman defeated Dustin Poirier in the first round. But this year, Poirier got his revenge by beating Conor in the second half. Apparently, having decided that until both of them lost their shape, it was necessary to hold a decisive, third fight, because the 1:1 score did not suit any of the fighters, and MMA fans still do not have a clear winner.
In addition, the organizers and the president of the Ufc understand that thanks to Conor, they can once again hit a good jackpot. After all, he knows how to make a show out of every fight and every time he proves it. So, although McGregor does not claim the lightweight championship like Poirier, he still wants to get a belt after this fight. An Irishman suggested that Dana White created a belt named after … Conor McGregor. He announced this on his Twitter, referring to the UFC. An unusual title to fight! He also said that the belt should be made of gold and with many precious stones. When it already seems that Conor Macregor’s egocentrism has reached the limit, he immediately proves the opposite.
