The remaining IPL 2021 matches will be held in autumn
Unfortunately the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was suspended on May 4 after several positive covid tests among players.
However, at the recent BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Special General Meeting on May 29, it was decided to hold the matches which remain in September-October 2021. All the members of the meeting voted for continuing the 2021 IPL season.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was elected to be the location of these matches, according to the BCCI. The choice of the place is based on the fact that it is a rainy season in India in September-October. Moreover, all matches in the previous IPL season were held in UAE and everything was perfect. This decision was expected, and the BCCI had already informally agreed on it with the Emirates Cricket Board.
This season 31 matches are due to be played in autumn. The final match is approximately scheduled for October 9 or 10. All the matches are to be played in three weeks starting from September 18 or 19. It is planned that this time is sufficient to play 31 remaining matches.
The last Test match between the Indian and English teams is due to be held on September 14 in Manchester. The following day the Indian and English players are to fly from Manchester to Dubai in a chartered flight. The West Indies team is going to fly to Dubai after playing the Caribbean Premier League. All the players are going to have a three-day quarantine upon arrival in UAE. The players have been told to get prepared for the games.
It was previously planned to hold India’s T20 matches against South Africa in September as preparation for T20 World Cup. However, they have been canceled by the BBCI. The IPL itself is the perfect preparation for the T20 World Cup. India may play additional matches during the tournament in South Africa in 2022.
